Mercedes-Benz recalls around 15,000 EQE/EQS electric vehicles in the U.S
Mercedes-Benz has now started recalling EQE and EQS pure electric vehicle models in the United States, totaling 14,912 vehicles. Due to the software issue, it may trigger the high-voltage system to shut down, causing the vehicle to lose power and cause safety hazards.

The problem was first discovered in October 2023, when a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Denmark reported a high-voltage battery warning message on the dashboard of a new car to be delivered.
Initially, Mercedes-Benz focused its investigation on the high-voltage battery management system itself. But further analysis showed that excessive diagnostic requests from other control units in the car could overload the battery management system's memory.
This overload would cause the system to reset, which, while a normal function according to design specifications, could cause safety issues. After a months-long investigation, Mercedes-Benz ultimately attributed the problem to a specific control unit installed in vehicles produced after January 2023.
After reviewing production records in May 2024, Mercedes-Benz confirmed the potential safety risk and initiated a recall procedure. Due to the nature of the software glitch, the driver would not receive any warning before the unexpected power loss occurred.
The recall involves a total of 14,912 vehicles in the U.S., including various versions of the EQE and EQS sedans and SUVs. Mercedes noted that the defect affects all recalled vehicles.
