Suzuki Australia GM hints Jimny pickup, hybrid, and EV models

As per the latest news, the vehicle manufacturer Suzuki company is looking to offer several derivatives of its popular Jimny 4x4 SUV. The Suzuki Jimny, currently available in 3 and 5-door SUV versions globally, could soon get a pickup, hybrid and EV derivative in Australia.

In terms of official statement, Michael Pachota, General Manager, Suzuki Australia, said, "Anything that starts with Jimmy ends in sales." Talking specifically about the derivates, Pachota mentioned, "The project, I would say, is not dead. Imagine a Jimny with two seats at the front and nothing at the back?". The GM also mentioned how the more efficient derivates of the SUV could help lower the brand's fleet-wide CO2 emission levels, especially with Australia implementing a 'New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) in 2025. Pachota stated, "I'd like to see other variations of the Jimmy product – variations that could probably even help with NVES."

For your general information, Suzuki Jimny EV is expected to arrive in 2030 - said to be one of the five battery-electric models planned by Suzuki before the end of the decade. Before the EV's arrival though, Suzuki will introduce a hybrid derivative.
