Tata Motors plans Jaguar Land Rover EV imports to India

Tata Motors is expected to import its Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) luxury electric cars. This plan will come under a new government policy that lowers import taxes. Tesla is also planning to bring and import its cars to India and make an investment in the country, Reuters has reported, but Tata's plan if realised would make it the first local carmaker to opt for the policy designed to increase use of electric vehicles (EVs).

The policy announced in March cuts import taxes to 15% from as high as 100% on some EV models if a carmaker invests at least $500 million and sets up a domestic factory within three years. Now, Tata and JLR are discussing the possibility of applying for incentives under the EV policy, said a third source aware of the company's plans, adding that deliberations are at an early stage.

"Tata wants to import JLR (EVs) under this new policy," said one of the two government sources, who declined to be named as the company plans are confidential. The meeting was attended by Hyundai Motor Co, Vinfast, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Mahindra, Toyota Motor Co and others. A Tesla representative was also present.

Tesla car users will soon have an integrated experience

Apart from that, Tesla car users will soon have an integrated experience with X social media platform. Replying to a follower who asked if we can get the X app integrated into Tesla cars, the tech billionaire said: “Coming soon.” Electric car owners will be able to use X via a software update in Tesla user interface (UI). “That is really good news.

At the moment, I can’t read X notifications on my iPhone while on FSD (full-self driving) without getting a nag. Native ecosystem integration will be way better. How will the Tesla UI look like for X?” Asked a Musk follower. “Waste of engineering time. There’s no way anybody can actively use the application while they are driving and it is uncomfortable to use in terms of typing because of your back having to twist very weirdly. The only use for it is spaces and you can’t even pause that,” posted an X user.
